A New Calling
December 12, 2018
This letter is from Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. I am writing to all who are CALLED TO LIVE IN THE LOVE OF GOD the Father and in the CARE of Jesus Christ. Jude 1:1
In the Christian communities, we often speak about our “callings.” We generally are meaning what we are called to do as a job or a ministry. Dwight is called to be a pastor, Danny Bunnelle is called to be a worship leader, John Bunn is called to be . . . hmm. That one is harder! 😊 We tend to define our callings by the things we do.
But Jude clarifies our basic calling. We are called to live in the love of God the Father and in the CARE of Jesus Christ. That’s a deliberate choice, and it gives us incredible benefits. Think about it:
Is there anything more satisfying than the love of God? Living in the middle of His love gives moment by moment satisfaction.
Is there anything that provides more significance than knowing you are loved by the Almighty God on your worst days and your best days? The love is unconditional, not based on your performance.
Is there anything more secure than the care of Jesus Christ? He loves you so much He died for you, but He has so much power that He defeated death, and promised that power and that exact victory over death for you as well. As Erwin McManus says, “Once death is behind you, there is nothing in front of you but life!” How secure is the care of our Lord!
We don’t want to identify ourselves by what we do, but by whose we are, and by the One who loves us. The love relationship God calls you to through Jesus Christ in His definer and identifier for you. Live in His love and care! Then sharing His love and care with others is the greatest purpose you will ever find.
Thank God today for the incomparable love he has provided to be your satisfying home, and the care of Jesus that provided as your security.
