The Ultimate Warrior

May 28, 2019

Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28

Do these names ring a bell with you? Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Brett Hart, the Ultimate Warrior. If so, you were either a young man fan or had sons or brothers who were big-time wrestling fans. You might be interested to know that of all the wrestlers vying for top billing when Lead Pastor Dwight Mason was young, Bobo Brazil with the famous “Coco Butt” move was one of his favorites. 😊 His imitation and emulation were worth a watch.

One of the big-time wrestling trademarks was intimidation and loud threats. The verbal attacks began long before an actual match, with each one claiming to be more powerful, more fearsome, more capable of delivering the death blow than anyone else. By the time the wrestlers made it to the ring, the crowd was in a fever pitch of enthusiastic anger, derision, and baiting. Who WAS the ultimate warrior? Who truly deserved the fearful acquiescence of their enemies? Every single one of them failed sometimes.

We all have “big-time wrestlers” in our lives who bait us with threats and intimidation. We all have a person or situation appearing as the Ultimate Warrior in our lives. We feel we don’t have a hope, and we’ve made poor, fearful, and unworthy decisions because of the fear they inspire. But Jesus declared with ultimate certainty that they are not to be feared. Their power is limited. The worst they can do is kill you; take away your physical life. “What??? That’s pretty bad!” Not as bad as it could be. There is a TRUE Ultimate Warrior, God Almighty Himself, and He is able to destroy BOTH your body and soul. He’s the One to be held in awe and reverence.

The most amazing fact is that He doesn’t want to destroy you. He doesn’t taunt, threaten, or desire to touch you with anything but love. Despite His power, He wants your relationship with Him to be so trusting and loving that you have no need to be afraid. The Ultimate Warrior is your Father. Not only is He on your side, but He has hosts of angel armies to defend and protect you. Don’t fear anyone here. Love the God who loves you. He’s the only one worth your fear (reverence), but you don’t need to be afraid. When I fear the right person, I am no longer afraid to say “no” to the wrong person.
