Let Me Talk to My Dad
February 21, 2020
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV
Having a great father is one of life’s greatest gifts. A great dad is committed to care for his children, to give them the resources they need, to stay in communication with them, and to answer the phone when they call. A truly great dad knows his children well and knows what most will satisfy them and is thrilled to give them whatever he can provide to meet the needs at hand.
Whether or not you had the tremendous gift of a father like that as you grew up, if you know Jesus as Savior, you have God as your Father. He far exceeds the greatest human dad who ever lived. Jesus talked about Him like this: “If you as a good dad know how to give good gifts to your children, don’t you realize how much more God your Father is delighted to give you exactly what you need and more?”
Most often when we think about God supplying our needs, we imagine things like food and clothes and cars and healing when we are sick. Of course, He has that power and that desire. But underneath those gifts, the foundational gifts He has for us are grace and mercy in our time of need. That means that He is able to give us just what we need just when we need it, whether we deserve it or not.
Amazing. Even more amazing is that as His children we don’t have to beg. Like a secure child with a great father will confidently say when presented with a need, “I’ll ask Dad!”, as His children we have the right to boldly, with confidence, approach our Father and tell Him what we need. We don’t even have to come with a shopping list. He knows what we need, and we can tell Him everything that’s on our heart, the areas where we don’t even have a clue what would make a different, and He has just what we need, just when we need it. No begging required. He is anxious to give us His good gifts.
How wonderful to have the Father we have! He wants to hear from us. He is anxious to meet our needs. Talk to your Father. Go in confidence.
- You have a need or two that feels overwhelming. Talk to your Father.
- You have a request that is important to you but may seem too small to merit His attention. It’s not. Talk to your Father with confidence.
- His grace and mercy often come in forms we weren’t expecting, but we will discover they are just what we need. Thank Him for the answers with anticipation and confidence.
