A Plan to Live Out
September 17, 2020
The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” Psalm 32:8 NLT
I have no natural sense of direction. For some unknown reason, a particular direction will “feel” north to me, yet actually be south. If you want to help me get somewhere, never give me directions that require me to go east or west. I need to turn left or right. I just don’t have what it takes to follow my instincts and end up where I am supposed to be. The advent of the phone with a GPS was the gift of a lifetime for me. It amazes me that I can type in an address and a list of directions that are easy to follow, one step at a time, shows up. It even tells me if my upcoming destination is on the right or left! Amazing. Just what I need.
That’s the way it is with my life. I do not naturally have the instinct and ability to get me where I need to go. I need a plan. I need direction. I will not accidentally, unintentionally end up with a well-lived, satisfying, and contributing life. Without a plan I will drift along, wasting my one and only life.
God’s plan for me is good. He created me. He knows all about me. I have been made by Him and for Him. He knows the place I can fill best. He knows where my abilities and talents will be fully and most productively expressed. His plan for me is that I serve Him and others. That plan is not just for those in fulltime professional ministry. It’s the plan for all of us.
God has always had plans. From the very beginning when He created this world, He had a plan. For day and night, heaven and earth, land and water, sun and moon, birds and fish, animals and people. He has always had a plan. Just four verses into His Word in the book of Genesis, He calls His plan good. As He finishes creation, He calls His plan very good.
His plan is always good because of the purpose it will serve, the hope it will give, the lives it will save. He has a plan for you. He knew your life before you were formed in your mother’s womb. He knows the hairs on your head, the thoughts in your mind. He cares too much to leave any detail to chance, God has plans for you, and they are good. He is the One who will guide you along the best pathway for your life. He will advise and protect you. He will watch over you every moment if you will only follow His plan. It is good.
- Pray: Father God, I know how easily I get lost and need direction. I know You have a plan for the best and most satisfying use of my life. Right now I commit myself to following Your plan and guidance. I want to make a difference, a true impact with my life. Lead me. I will follow. Amen.
