Generosity Sunday

Here at NewPointe Community Church we value being generous!

Generosity Sunday is an opportunity to impact our local community. We are never more like God than when we give. Generosity is a quality — like honesty and patience — but it takes action to show itself. This year we are choosing to step up and fight against an issue that is happening in our own backyards. Funds collected on Generosity Sunday will shine light into the darkness of sex trafficking in Ohio to build Safe Harbor, a facility in Ohio to provide care for girls, ages 14 through 19, who have been recovered from sex traffickers.

The Problem

Human Trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, mainly for the purpose of forced labor and sex. As the world’s fastest growing criminal industry, it affects every nation across the globe. And it’s happening in Ohio and in every county where we have a NewPointe campus.

National Stats

One in six missing children were likely victims of child sex trafficking, of the nearly 26,500 children reported missing in 20201. Online sex trafficking increased by more than 45% during the COVID-19 pandemic2. A single trafficking “case” reported to the hotline can involve multiple victims and is not an indication of law enforcement involvement. There are 63,380 total cases from 2007-2019.

Ohio Stats

Of the four most populated states (California, Texas, Florida, and New York), their human trafficking numbers are proportional to their population size, but not Ohio. While Ohio ranks seventh in U.S. population, it ranks fifth in the number of reported human trafficking cases.

The Plan

Build a facility in Ohio to provide care for girls, ages 14 through 19, who have been recovered from sex traffickers. The U.S. Justice Department has identified less than 600 beds nationwide, available long term, dedicated to survivors of sex trafficking. Ohio will soon be home to Safe Harbor, a faith-based, long-term, residential, therapeutic community for girls who have been recovered from sex traffickers. Safe Harbor will provide trauma-informed, holistic care on site. Services will include physical, emotional, and spiritual care through local partners, doctors, psychiatrists, and staff therapists, as well as education with a charter school. With a staff pastor and the help of local churches, we will nurture the girls’ spirituality so they can find their own faith. We’ll also teach skills for healthy conflict resolution, self-regulation, independent living, and job-training skills.

The Partnership

NewPointe is excited to partner and help build Safe Harbor alongside these three amazing partners: Leader’s Edge, Eight Days of Hope, and The Refuge.

  • As the project initiator, Leader’s Edge is leveraging influence to inspire others to make a great impact right here in NewPointe’s backyards and across Ohio.
  • Eight Days of Hope has construction expertise from start to finish and knows how to mobilize volunteer laborers, and has been building safe houses where survivors can be free to start a new life.
  • The Refuge is our nation’s expert in working with survivors of Human Trafficking with the largest long-term, live-in rehabilitation facility in Texas for child survivors of sex trafficking in the United States. Together we will build Safe Harbor!
