A Different Kind of Peace

April 4, 2019

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

If you’re not careful, it can be easy to place your hope in money. Money is something we can hold in our hands or look at in our bank account. We feel the weight of its absence or possess a sense of security when we have it in abundance. That’s the kind of false “peace” the world gives. That is a basic reason that when it comes to money, regardless of how much or how little you have, you’ll be tempted to sin in different ways.

Instead of placing your hope in money, place your hope in God. He owns everything, and He will provide what you need to live your life for Him. He will help you choose contentment.

It’s difficult to be content. We are bombarded with a slew of messages and images everywhere we go that entice us to pursue something “better.” The world we live in calls us to be dissatisfied with who we are and what we have. Peace leaves us, bit by bit.

Discontentment may not sound like a big deal on the surface. But it’s a subtle sin that leaves us lacking and empty. It can lead to unnecessary debt, infidelity, or unwise decisions in an attempt to get ahead.

Contentment is more than just being happy with who you are and what you have; contentment is based on God’s love for you. It's learning to be satisfied in Christ regardless if you have a little or a lot of money. It is accepting the peace He offers that says, no matter what, I will not be troubled, I will not be afraid. Jesus is with me. I have His peace; a peace nothing the world offers can give to me OR take away from me.

  • What is typically required for you to experience peace?
  • Do you feel the security of the peace Jesus intends you to have?
  • If you don’t have the “peace the world does not understand,” what must you do in order to get it?
  • Pray and ask for His peace to cover you today.
