All the Truth

March 23, 2020

But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future]. John 16:13 AMP

When many people talk about desiring the Holy Spirit, they talk about their hopes and desires for spectacular signs and wonders. Of course, God can do anything He wants to do, but the primary reason the Holy Spirit has been given to us is not to give us extraordinary manifestations but to lead us into truth. He comes to shine light on our hearts. As He does, He will show us the truth about all things.

He will show us the truth about ourselves. That’s a really big deal. As He shines the light of truth on our hearts, we see who we really and truly are and what He wants to do in and through us. We can see with accuracy and hope our sins and failings, and address them through the power of the Holy Spirit.

He will show us the truth about Jesus. He will reveal all Jesus is and the truth of His working in our lives.

He will show us the truth about the Scriptures. As He illuminates the Scriptures, He will make spiritual realities vivid and clear to us.

He will tell us the truth that is straight from the Father. The Father and the Holy Spirit concentrate on Jesus, and you will get to know Him better and better in practical ways.

He will help you discern truth from foolishness about the future. Jesus said that many false prophets will come and try to deceive us. But if we stay close to Jesus through the Holy Spirit, we can know truth.

The Holy Spirit gives us wisdom and revelation to enlighten the eyes of our understanding about Jesus. Paul’s powerful prayer in Ephesians 1:18 NLT is for this!

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

  • Pray Paul’s prayer for yourself. Pray “Me and My” everywhere he says “You and Your.”
  • Ask for the Holy Spirit’s wisdom in every situation you find yourself, and then wait for it.
