Love Looks Good on You

April 23, 2021

"Love does not give up. Love is kind. Love is not jealous. Love does not put itself up as being important. Love has no pride. Love does not do the wrong thing. Love never thinks of itself. Love does not get angry. Love does not remember the suffering that comes from being hurt by someone. Love is not happy with sin. Love is happy with the truth. Love takes everything that comes without giving up. Love believes all things. Love hopes for all things. Love keeps on in all things. Love never comes to an end.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a NLV

A newly engaged young couple recently posted their engagement pictures on Facebook. I enjoyed scrolling through the pictures and comments and smiled as I read the statement made by several people, “Love looks good on you.” It was true.

The love that Jesus commanded us to have looks good on all of us. Can you imagine anyone who wouldn’t look better if this kind of love were their experience?

This love perseveres and never gives up.

This love wears kindness like precious jewelry.

This love has not a shred of jealousy but is happy for others’ successes.

This love doesn’t put on airs or feel self-important.

This love isn’t prideful and self-protective.

This love doesn’t try to get by with doing the wrong thing.

This love doesn’t focus on itself.

This love doesn’t use anger as a tool.

This love doesn’t hold grudges and constantly review their hurts.

This love isn’t happy when sin happens.

This love handles whatever comes without giving up.

This love believes the best, hopes for the best, and just keeps on keeping on no matter what

This love never comes to an end.

My goodness, this love looks good on you. It looks good on me. This is the way Jesus loves us. It’s the kind of love that sees the best, believes the best, hopes for the best, and works for the best.

What were you like when Jesus found you? How has His love changed you? How might this love change your world? Love looks good on you. Love works good through you.

  • Jesus, I need Your love to exude from me into a world that needs You. May Your love, shared through me, cause others to have hope and a reason to believe. Amen.
