The Foundation of Peace

May 3, 2021

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Romans 5:1 NLT

In these early months of 2021 with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing, political debates over every possible subject; racial division and violence raging on; schools, workplaces, churches, sports, and entertainment figuring out an ongoing new normal; it’s understandable that more people than ever have been googling for help and peace of mind. With these looming concerns on top of usual day-to-day responsibilities, people are finding the chaos and disequilibrium hard to handle. Many fall into bed at night with their minds spinning and an inability to sleep, regardless of the level of exhaustion they feel.

The search for peace will never be resolved unless and until we start at the basic place peace is broken. God created us for relationship with Him, yet every one of us is separated from Him by sin. Whether or not we believe that or admit it, God has created all of us with an awareness of the void and lack of peace in our lives. We may mask it with many kinds of coping mechanisms and denial, but the lack of peace remains.

Jesus Christ came into the world as a willing sacrifice to pay the debt of sin and make restoration of peace between man and God possible. When we place our faith in Jesus, we are made right with God. Our sins are forgiven; our debt is paid. What we could never do for ourselves, no matter how hard we worked or how much we sacrificed, Jesus accomplished for us as the willing and sinless Son of God.

Peace with God through the work of Jesus is this:

No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me.
From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny!
No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand.
'Til He returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I'll stand!

That’s peace!

  • If you don’t have this peace with God, now is the time to accept Jesus’ sacrifice and repent of your sins.
  • If you know this peace, with whom can you share it?
