Realize Your Identity

July 19, 2021

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 NLT

We all have times in life when we feel lost or down about ourselves, confused about our worth. Sometimes negative voices from our past or in the world seem to speak louder than the voice of God. The way to freedom is to constantly remind yourself of who Christ says you are and your identity in Him. God’s Word tells us in many places who we are. Just like law enforcement officers keep their weapons at the ready so when someone appears threatening they can quickly show them who is boss, we need to have our weapons close at hand.

Copy a few verses that help you, and keep them where you can read them regularly. When you feel overwhelmed or discouraged about who you are, these verses will speak life and truth into your life and help you realize your true identity.

Let me share a few of mine with you. Read them aloud. See what this truthful affirmation does for your faith, courage, and momentum today.

I am a child of God. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 NLT

I am chosen and appointed. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. John 15:16 NLT

I am Jesus’ friend. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends. John 15:15 NIV

I am God’s masterpiece. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT

I am more than a conqueror. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37 NIV

Only the One who owns me has the right to name me and call out my identity. He assures me in every way that I am greatly loved, highly favored, and have what it takes.

  • Jesus, thank You for Your love, the identity it gives me, and the standing I have with God because I belong to You. I look forward to my future because I will always have what it takes through You. Amen.
