Another New Normal

May 24, 2021

Though our world is always changing and the last decade has brought monumental changes in many ways around the world, the nation, right here at NewPointe, and in our individual families, I think it is safe to say that the last 18 months have been a world-wide parade of nearly daily changes. The COVID-19 virus that has impacted our world and brought a myriad of changes has brought out the best and the worst in people. On the one hand, it has united communities and even nations in new levels of compassion for each other. On the other hand, every pre-existing division among us seemed to multiply exponentially. Because of the location of the virus origination, sadly, a terrible wave of Asian hate crimes swept across the United States.

Good and intelligent people were distressed and concerned about the situation in which we found ourselves, but I am gratefully proud to say that the NewPointe family rose to the challenge. I would say we learned some significant lessons; lessons that Jesus our leader has always taught to be our relational foundation. From the leadership of God’s Word we chose…

  • Humility—humility is always willing to listen and learn. We have chosen that stance deliberately.
  • Submission—deliberately, willingly, and cheerfully deferring our desires for the good of others and to obey the authorities God has allowed to be in place.
  • Honoring others—Romans 12:10 instructs us to take delight in honoring or preferring the desires and needs of others above our own.

Because we prioritized these attitudes, we have been able to continue to make a difference throughout our communities in these difficult days. While others have chosen different paths, we have been able to keep moving ahead and blessing our communities through this truly challenging period. Thank you for your patience, perseverance, and maturity.

Now comes the good news! God has brought us through, and once again striving to work with God to do the next wise thing, we are following the guidelines of the authorities in the know and we are making changes immediately. We are lifting the mask requirement for all our gatherings.

This does not mean that everyone will be comfortable or even able to participate in that way. We encourage you to follow the best advice of your doctor if you have particular issues that suggest more care. For all of us, even though the masks are no longer required, followers of Jesus are to be defined by our humility, our submission, and the way we honor others. I am anticipating that love, kindness, and understanding will mark this new season at NewPointe.

Thank you! Looking forward to seeing you and your beautiful smiles!
