My Goal Is to …

My Goal Is to …

So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. 2 Corinthians 5:9 NLT

What would need to happen in your life for you to feel that you had handled it well? What would need to take place this year for you to be satisfied that it was successful? That is dependent on your definition of success. If you are a Jesus-follower in the style of Paul, your definition of success starts with the goal Paul described to the Corinthians: “Our goal is to please God.”

To please God through the next year and into the rest of your life means that you prayerfully set aside time to sit down and think through the area/areas where God wants to work with you. The total health of our lives is composed of spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, relational, financial, and vocational health. As you pray about each area, consider the outcomes you want to achieve. Then consider the processes you must be willing to implement to get there. The results you get will be directly tied to the processes you have in your life.

Goals must be set with intention and followed with discipline. Shortcuts and taking it easy won’t get you to where God wants to take you. All the goals that please Him have processes that we must go through.

Set some God-sized, God-pleasing goals this year that can’t be achieved unless you are working with Him. Put in place processes that will help you stay on track throughout the year.

What needs to happen between now and the end of the month to get you started?

Whom do you need to talk to about your goals and processes? Who will hold you accountable?

You have to push past your fears, refuse to procrastinate, ignore your doubts, and take your first step in faith. Don’t allow yourself to stall out because things aren’t perfect at the start. If you wait for perfection, you’ll never start. Get started. You know some things you would like to accomplish – even more, things you believe God wants for you. But unless you set real goals with an actionable plan, those thoughts are just daydreams.

  • Where do you believe God wants you to start? When will you take the time to think it through and make your plans?
