A piece of folk wisdom tells us, “The one unchangeable fact of life is that everything changes.” That is pretty well true. Sometimes we don’t want to set goals because we fear change will invalidate what we have done.
I said, “pretty well true,” but certainly not completely true. There is one thing, the most important element over all of life – including goal setting and accomplishment – that never changes. That is the faithful wisdom of God. He promises us to be with us at every step, and He will give us exactly what we need when we need it.
Setting the goal with God and getting started is essential. As you know, it is easier to move a moving object. God is more committed to your future than even you are, and He will be with you. There is absolutely no doubt that God wants you to live a full life, fulfilling your potential. He will be faithful to you.
Along the way to reaching your goal, you may make mistakes. No problem. With God, a mistake is not a failure as long as we keep working with Him. This is what He promises:
I will point out the road that you should follow. When an adjustment is needed, just listen. Be humble and willing to adjust according to what God is speaking to your heart.
I will be your teacher. God doesn’t expect you to know everything. He does, and He is very willing to teach you, Again, humility and teachability are essential. As you work toward the goal, God will bring people and resources into your life that will move you forward if you stay alert and willing to learn and grow. Being taught by God and His people is our great resource.
I will watch over you. Is anything more empowering than this? When a child has a strong, capable, and loving father, he is willing and even excited to try almost anything his father suggests and thinks he should do. Why? Why not? His father is watching over him and will protect and help him. We have a most amazing Father. There is nothing beyond His wisdom or capability, and He loves us so thoroughly that we are never out of His sight. We can live adventurous, amazing lives because He is with us and watching over us!
