At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, the United States achieved a historic milestone by winning gold medals in both women's and men's ice hockey, marking the first time in Olympic history for a U.S. sweep in the same Games. This was a historic hockey double gold. Both teams defeated Canada in identical 2-1 overtime thrillers.
The U.S. women secured their third Olympic gold (1998, 2018, 2026) in a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory on Feb. 19, with a "golden goal" by Megan Keller and a clutch equalizer from Hilary Knight. The U.S. men won their first gold since the 1980 "Miracle on Ice," defeating Canada 2-1 in overtime on Feb. 22, 46 years to the day of the 1980 victory –with a game-winning goal by Jack Hughes.
This was a significant Olympic sweep, making the U.S. only the second country in history to win both hockey golds in the same Winter Olympics, following Canada’s record. These wins have been almost daily in the news since then. The players and coaches have been interviewed and applauded everywhere. It has sent a wave of pride and buzz across America.
We’ve been having big wins at NewPointe in even more important ways than the international Olympics. Our wins are eternal! This past Sunday we baptized 101 people across all our campuses! That means 101 people have come to know and follow Jesus Christ. It means that 101 people have chosen to publicly testify to their faith and commitment. This means that 101 people are being enfolded in the life of the body of Christ through NewPointe. Incredible wins!
