The Power of Going on a Mission Trip

The Power of Going on a Mission Trip

May 27, 2026

Have you ever been on a mission trip?

What I mean is have you ever gone to serve people who are different than you, less fortunate than you, in a different culture than you? I have. The first time I went, I was 19 years old. I went to the Philippines, and it changed my life and perspective forever. I determined to find a way for my children to experience this. It has changed them as well.

I don’t believe you can fully understand the heart of God until you have had your heart stretched in this way. No one develops compassion by praying for it. You develop compassion by opening yourself to experiencing the challenges and difficulties of life others have that you have been privileged enough to miss. You begin to care authentically.

NewPointe is committed to giving opportunities for mission trips because it is a powerful experience that goes far beyond just travel or volunteering. It offers a unique opportunity to connect deeply with people from different cultures and backgrounds. These connections foster empathy and understanding. By stepping outside of familiar surroundings, mission-trip participants are enabled to gain fresh perspectives on their own lives and values. This kind of firsthand encounter with new communities can inspire a sense of purpose and commitment to service or renew something that has died. These opportunities nurture personal growth as well as spiritual development.

Church mission trips create a lasting impact, not only for those who serve but also for the communities they serve. As the mission team performs acts of kindness, gives practical help, and shares their faith, members can bring hope and then tangible improvements to people’s lives. Being involved in such trips strengthens bonds and often builds lifelong friendships with the people helped and other team members. It is a privilege to become part of a larger global community. Ultimately, these mission trips are transforming for everyone involved.

A mission trip enlarges your heart. It will strip your sense of entitlement away. It is a great way to help develop a big story for you and your children that will forever change their lives. This is your opportunity. July 17-24 we are going to the Appalachian Mountains to serve people. Check it out here: Appalachia Mission Trip
