Encouragement Is Life

Encouragement Is Life

July 20, 2026

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV

Paul’s direction to intentionally encourage one another and build each other up is applicable to every person in every generation.

Mark Twain said, “Encouragement is oxygen to my soul.”

Solomon said, “Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs him down, but an encouraging word brings him joy.” Proverbs 12:25 NET

I spent time with a group of men a few weeks ago. I challenged them to intentionally let God bring people to their minds. Maybe their spouse, friends, children, co-workers, neighbor, pastor.

Then I told them why. I asked them to text two sentences to the people God brought to their minds:

  • I believe in you
  • I am thankful and grateful for you.

They began to do it, and almost immediately their phones were pinging with responses.

It was very moving to be part of that group as they read the responses from the people they texted.

Again, wise Solomon says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21 NIV

You have the ability to speak life into someone right now.

Pause and ask God to bring to your mind who in your life needs you to text them these words.

I believe in you.

or,

I am thankful and grateful for you.

Do it. God will go with your words. You will speak life and encouragement.

You don’t know what God will do. And you just might be surprised by what you get back!
