So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16 NLT
He is the Creator, almighty God. He has complete power over everyone and everything. But we can approach God with NO fear. He is also a gracious God, anxious to prove to you that you can trust Him with more than forgiving your sins and your past – you can trust Him with your present and your future. You can know that His will for you is better than anything you could achieve on your own. You can find joy in aligning your will with His.
A throne symbolizes power and authority. When you realize that you can come to the place of ultimate authority and power and there you will find mercy and grace, everything changes. Your perspective and possibilities all change.
Oxford Dictionary defines mercy as “compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.” Our Father gets us. He understands us. He’s not looking to punish us. He knows everything we carry when we come to Him, and He’s not disappointed in us. He looks at us with tender mercy. We don’t get the bad, hard judgment we might easily expect or deserve.
On the other hand, the grace God gives us is actively getting the good, the favor we don’t deserve. His grace equips us with wisdom for our decisions, patience to wait when it’s required, and faith that God is working all things for our good. We find ourselves surprised and delighted at the increased ease and peace He gives us as we walk in grace through our lives. We see it is so much easier to get things done correctly when we believe He is good and gracious and working for our good. Aligning my will with His becomes my go-to decision because over time I see He does everything better than I can imagine.
You and I can expect to see God’s mercy and grace actively working in our lives. We can be confident that whatever battle we are in the middle of now or what the approaching circumstances look like, we have Father God Himself in our corner. Know this: He sees where you are, He hears your prayers, and He passionately wants to be working with you.
God works all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose as we align our wills with His (Romans 8:28).
- “He knows, He loves, He cares. Nothing this truth can dim. He gives the very best to those who leave the choice to Him.” How can you surrender your will to His?
