I am the LORD, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. For I am about to do something new. Isaiah 43:16, 19a NLT
“Way maker, miracle worker
Promise keeper, light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are
Way maker, miracle worker
Promise keeper, light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are.”
I can’t read those lyrics without singing them. Can you? These words, written by a Nigerian songwriter named Sinach, became the anthem of encouragement throughout the nation, even the larger Christian world, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This powerful author called on us to trust the provision and resources of our mighty God as she called Him the Way Maker. That’s how God often refers to Himself. He makes a way whenever everyone else gives up, when things seem impossible.
God speaks often of making a way through deserts, wastelands, wildernesses, raging waters. He has done that throughout history literally. But those words also symbolize the most excruciating, impossible situations we can imagine. In every circumstance where He is trusted and believed, God steps in and makes a way. Just as He was for ancient Israel, He is still the Way Maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness.
As we go into this new year, we want to open our hearts to a new level of faith and trust in His wisdom, resources, and active love to provide for us just what we need for all the easy days and for the challenging days as well. We can place our confidence in God to completely provide exactly what we need exactly when we need it. No matter who else loves us, no one can love and care for us as He does. Think about this:
- God loves you so much He always wants to provide only the very best for you.
- God has so much wisdom, He know exactly what that very best is.
- God has so much power, He can fully provide everything for you that is the wisest and very best.
Do you know anyone else who is like that? No. You don’t. Neither do I. People may love us well, but they do not have the capacity to fully see and know what is ultimately best for any situation. Even if they did, they can’t provide it. He can – He is the Way Maker.
- Moving into my own and our mutual future with God requires trusting His love, wisdom, and power to provide what is right and best – the right resources at the right time.
