So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2 NLT
Everything about our relationship with God is beneficial. It begins with freedom from condemnation and guilt when we put our faith in Jesus. Because we belong to Him, the life-giving Spirit frees us from the power of sin. That leads us to a walk overflowing with benefits.
First, the Spirit walk enables believers to overcome the natural desires of their flesh, resist temptation, and find victory for life. This defeats shame and struggle and enables confidence. A person walking in victory has the assurance that God is with him.
Walking in the Spirit naturally develops character. The Spirit produces character qualities in us we cannot consistently produce on our own. The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) flourishes and we grow naturally in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Walking in the Spirit strengthens a believer's relationship with God. The Spirit helps a person to hear God’s voice, understand God’s will, and receive His guidance in daily decisions. The one who walks in the Spirit has continual access to wisdom beyond his or her own.
The Holy Spirit empowers us to live up to our privileges. We have the responsibility to live as Christ followers, to be representatives for God, to witness to what He has done for us and will do for anyone who chooses to follow in trust and faith. The Holy Spirit gives empowerment for service and fulfilling God’s purpose for life.
Peace and security are direct benefits from walking in the Spirit. The inner peace we feel comes from our confidence and sense of security in God. Our fear and anxiety are demonstrably reduced.
Walking in the Spirit frees me from legalism. Oh, what a joy and benefit! The focus of my life shifts from rule-following, performance, and comparison and moves me to a life dominated by grace and love. It benefits me and everyone around me.
- There’s nothing like walking in the Spirit. It is a life of joy and freedom. It is the life I was created to live. Holy Spirit, fill me and help me walk with You.
