For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
It’s not unusual to hear someone say, “I was an ‘oopsie’ baby.” Or “I was an accident.” They mean their parents did not deliberately plan to have a child at that moment in time.” But they are wrong about being an “accident” or an “oopsie baby.” There has never been such a thing. Every person who has ever taken a breath has been designed and created by Almighty God our Father with infinite love, exquisite care, and specific purpose.
Every part of that statement is vital.
Infinite means having no limits, boundaries, or end in size, extent, or time. It describes something that is endless, immeasurable. That is the kind of love our Father has for every one of us. It far surpasses the love of any human being.
According to the Merriman Dictionary, exquisite means flawless craftsmanship or beautiful, ingenious, delicate, or elaborate execution. It means “caring for the tiniest detail.” That is the kind of precision and care God used in creating each of us, and the personal care He exercises in His relationship with us every day. Nothing is random, nothing coincidental.
Based on His infinite love and His exquisite care, our Father has a specific purpose for us. The word specific indicates something designed or tailored to meet an individual's specifications, needs, or preferences. Think about that! When God considers you, He has a specialized, individualized “search engine” to prepare what is exactly suited for your best.
What incredible value our Father has given us! We are created and designed for a specific purpose. He made us to find our greatest joy and fulfillment in being part of the greatest mission of the universe in all of time, the mission to bring His Kingdom to earth for all the people He loves. We are all privileged to play a significant part.
Even more amazing – it’s not the basic entry-level position we get when we start an ordinary job. He has entrusted us with high-level responsibility, representing Him to the world. Long ago before we were ever the proverbial “twinkle in our mother’s eye,” He thoroughly knew us, infinitely loved us, and specifically planned good works for us to do to fulfill our lives and our mutual mission. Amazing!
- Father, today I thank You for the love and purpose You have for me, and for the confidence You have that I can fulfill it. Help me work with You today, confident that we will do great things. Amen.
