A Mindset Change

June 24, 2026

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:2-3 NLT

When a person chooses to follow Christ, it means living as Jesus lives. Our own lives and desires are no longer our priority focus. Many things about our lives change, and one of the most significant for thriving spiritually is a change of mindset. We develop a "heaven-shaped" mindset. We become more focused on the perspective of heaven than that of earth. It means we actively and intentionally align our daily thoughts, actions, and decisions with the ultimate principles of heaven.

As we develop this mindset our thoughts shift from momentary material wins to lasting, spiritual impacts, seeing life from God’s point of view. A heavenly mindset enables us to live with purpose, intending to bring "heaven on earth" by serving others, acting with grace, and exhibiting authentic peace in uncertainty. It means living to help answer the prayer that Jesus taught us: “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Thinking with heaven’s mindset is trusting that God is a God of love and power, so His provision is always at the right time and enough. The focus on heaven actively works to divest one’s heart of self-centeredness that destroys us from the inside.

A life with a heavenly mindset reshapes your life by lowering stress and anxiety. You have a deep-seated peace without the need to control every outcome. This mindset shifts the focus from selfishness to selflessness. The result is growing compassion, kindness, grace, and patience in relationships. This perspective reframes hardship and struggles as temporary and momentary that build resilience for the future. When our minds are set on heaven, even an ordinary day has extraordinary purpose. Tasks at home, work, church, community are all infused with meaning because we know what we do lasts forever.

When we are focused on heaven, we develop a deep and personal passion for others to be part of this kingdom of love, joy, and peace with us. We share Jesus with grace and mercy, refusing to judge others outside of grace. We shift focus from comparison and scarcity to grace and restoration. Instead of competing to "win" or prove one's value, our heavenly focus lifts others, heals brokenness, and transforms conflict into connection. We want to share heaven here and now and forever with everyone.

  • Jesus, help me die to this life and fix my mind on heaven. As I do, my life here on this earth will be satisfying and attractive, and I will help fill heaven with others You love.
