And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death. The question isn't whether I understand everything my King does. The question is whether I trust the One who does it. There will always be things about God we don't understand.
- Sometimes we pray and the answer isn't what we expected.
- Sometimes the door doesn't open.
- Sometimes the road takes a turn we would never have chosen.
And that's where trust becomes more than a word. Anybody can trust Jesus when His plan looks like ours.
Faith learns to say, "I don't understand what my King is doing, but I know who my King is." God helps me so often with this truth: "If I had all the information He has, I’d already agree with Him."
This is a profound definition of trust. Like a child holds her parent’s hand and walks with joy without knowing the destination, faith is confidently walking with Jesus even when we don’t know where the path leads. Often faith is simply knowing WHO is leading us.
Faith isn't confidence in my understanding; it's confidence in my King. Where am I having difficulty trusting God right now? My future? My family? My unanswered prayer? A relationship? Something I cannot control? Something I desperately wish He would change?
Talk to Him. Tell Him how you feel and ask Him to help you trust even where you don’t understand.
- A good king doesn't merely possess authority. A good king can be trusted with the lives of his people. And our King is not merely good. He is perfectly good. Read Romans 8 again aloud and affirm it all day.
