Discovering Purpose in Community

Discovering Purpose in Community

October 7, 2026

Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 4:10

Every follower of Jesus has been uniquely gifted by God. Some gifts are visible and public. Others happen quietly behind the scenes. Some people teach, lead, or communicate. Others encourage, serve, listen, pray, organize, give, or care for those in need.

Peter reminds us that each of us should use whatever gift we have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace.

Notice that spiritual gifts were never intended to be used only for personal benefit. God gives them so that we can strengthen and serve one another.

One of the greatest ways we discover our purpose is by engaging in community.

  • As we serve, we learn
  • As we contribute, we grow
  • As we step into opportunities, God reveals more about how He has uniquely wired us

Many people spend years wondering what God’s purpose is for their lives, while remaining on the sidelines. Often, purpose is discovered through participation. God reveals our gifts as we use them.

The church functions best when every person contributes what God has entrusted to them. No gift is insignificant. No act of service is too small. When each person faithfully uses their gifts, the entire body grows stronger.

God has placed something valuable inside of you. Someone else needs what God has given you.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

What gifts, talents, experiences, or passions has God entrusted to you? Ask Him to show you one practical way to use them to serve others this week.

PRAYER

Father, thank You for uniquely gifting me to serve others. Forgive me for staying on the sidelines while wondering about my purpose. Help me discover how You have wired me by stepping in and participating. Remind me that no gift is insignificant and no act of service is too small. Show me one practical way to use what You have entrusted to me this week.
