Generosity Reveals Trust

Generosity Reveals Trust

October 21, 2026

Today’s Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:17

What we trust most often determines how we live.

Paul instructed Timothy to teach wealthy believers not to place their hope in riches because wealth is uncertain. Instead, they were to put their hope in God, who richly provides everything we need.

This instruction applies to all of us, regardless of our income level.

Trust is revealed through our actions.

When we trust our resources more than God, we tend to hold tightly to what we have. Fear begins to drive our decisions. We worry about losing what we’ve accumulated, and generosity becomes increasingly difficult.

When we trust God, however, we begin to live differently.

Generosity becomes easier because our confidence is not rooted in our bank account but in God’s faithfulness. We recognize that He has provided in the past, is providing today, and will continue to provide tomorrow.

Generosity is not simply a financial issue. It is a faith issue. Every act of generosity is a declaration that God is trustworthy. It reminds us that our security is found in Him, not in our possessions.

God does not ask us to trust Him because He needs our resources. He asks us to trust Him because He wants our hearts. The more we trust Him, the more freely we can live with open hands.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Where are you most tempted to place your trust—in God or in your resources? Ask God to strengthen your faith and help you trust Him more deeply.

PRAYER

Father, what I trust most shapes how I live. Forgive me for the times I hold tightly out of fear of losing what I have. Strengthen my faith to trust You more than my resources. You have provided in the past, You provide today, and You will provide tomorrow. Help me live with open hands, knowing my security is found in You.
